Shaykh Suheil Laher serves as Fawakih's Academic Dean and is an instructor for Arabic and tafsir courses. He earned a PhD in Islamic Studies from Harvard University and holds numerous ijazahs in fiqh, aqidah, hadith, Quran recitation, and other subjects. He currently lives in Virginia with his family.
Ustadh Syed Omair recently joined Fawakih as the Lead Instructor. Prior to Fawakih, he served as an instructor at Qasid Institute in Amman, Jordan for six years. During his time there he studied tajwid, fiqh, aqidah, logic, tafsir, hadith and shama'il. Father of a newborn, he now resides in Virginia and gives sermons throughout the area.
AYSE MÜGE BEERS
Ustadha Müge Beers earned a Masters of Science in Chemistry from Brown University and is a licensed Chemistry instructor. She began her Quranic Arabic learning with Bayyinah, and has since completed Advanced Arabic courses with Fawakih. She is also fluent in Turkish and proficient in Spanish.
Ustadha Raghad Bushnaq was born and raised in Syria and studied various fields of the Islamic Sciences. She teaches Arabic and Quran at Fawakih, for adults and children. She is also an instructor at Rabata and founder of Mozaic, a nonprofit providing support to Syrian refugees in the DC-Metro area.
Yasmin Elhady is an attorney and relationship consultant. Yasmin has a JD from UCLAW, a Masters from Princeton, and a BS in Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology from Emory. Yasmin minored in Arabic and completed the CASA program in Egypt. She also took joint classes at Al Azhar Univerity in fiqh, usul, and tafsir.
Sr. Nicole Correri, MEd, is a motivational speaker. She studies Arabic with Fawakih Institute and is finishing her thesis for a Master’s of Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations at Hartford Seminary and plans to pursue a PhD. She has also taken Howza classes with Al-Qaem Institute.
ISMAIL IBN ALI
Ustadh Ismail is the Executive Director of Fawakih. After earning his Masters in Education in 2013, he joined Fawakih full-time and has continued his study of Arabic and Islamic Sciences on a part-time basis. He also teaches with a number of local and national institutes which partner with Fawakih.
Imam Mohamed Magid is the Imam of All Dulles Area Muslim Society Center in Sterling, Virginia. He also serves as an advisor to Fawakih. Imam Magid studied under the foremost scholars of Sudan. Following in the footsteps of his father, he has dedicated his life to the teaching of Islam in the West.
Shaykh Mohamed Hussein is the executive director of the Somali American Youth Foundation. He is a graduate of the College of Hadith at the Islamic University of Madinah and also spent some time studying in Yemen. He currently teaches throughout the DC-Metro area with several local and national institutes.
Ustadh Omar Popal serves as a resident instructor of Quranic Arabic at Fawakih. He has been a student of the Islamic Sciences since he was in high school and has benefited from scholars in South Africa, Yemen, Turkey and the US. He lives in Virginia where he teaches with Fawakih and other local institutes.
hamzah W. MAQBUL
Shaykh Hamzah Wald Maqbul has pursued study of the Islamic Sciences since graduation from the University of Washington. His studies have taken him to Morocco, Mauritania, UAE, and Pakistan. He currently resides in Chicago, IL and teaches with a number of local and national institutes.
Ustadha Faatimah Knight holds a BA in Islamic Law and Theology from Zaytuna College and recently earned her MA in Theological Studies from Chicago Theological Seminary. She serves as Religious Content Editor at Sapelo Square. Originally from Brooklyn, NY she now resides in the DC-Metro Area.
Ustadha Tasneem Hussam is an environmental engineer, with degrees from MIT and Stanford University. She began her study of Quranic Arabic with Fawakih in 2011 and has since studied advanced Arabic at Qasid Institute in Amman, Jordan. She currently resides in Philadelphia, PA.
